چکیده

ownloade kground: Breath analysis became promising for noninvasive diagnoses of cancer with sophisticated ometry technology introduced. This study aimed to screen volatile markers for hepatocellular oma (HCC). thods: Breath samples were collected from 30 HCC patients who were comorbid with type B hepatitis rrhosis and from 27 hepatocirrhosis patients and 36 healthy persons, both taken as controls. The volatile ic compounds in the samples were analyzed with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and the rs were selected by comparing their levels between groups. Each of the markers was evaluated by reoperating characteristic (ROC) curves and a discriminant function using the markers was established. lationships of α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels and clinical stages with the concentrations of the markers were vestigated. ults: 3-Hydroxy-2-butanone, styrene, and decane were screened as potential markers, among which roxy-2-butanone was found to have the best diagnostic value. The diagnostic function using these rs had a sensitivity of 86.7% and a specificity of 91.7% between HCC patients and normal controls sensitivity of 83.3% and a specificity of 91.7% by cross-validation. No statistically significance (P > as found for the concentration differences of these markers between HCC patients with AFP >400 0 μg/L or between stage I-II and stage III-IV patients. clusion: These volatile organic compounds could be useful as breath markers of HCC patients, ndent of AFP levels or clinical stages. indepe Impact: Breath analysis could be useful for early diagnosis of HCC, especially for AFP-negative HCC. Evaluation of serum AFP (α-fetoprotein) level in HBsAg carrier patients for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is common all over the world as well as Iran. The incidence of HCC is higher in hepatitis B carriers and it is highly recommended to periodically screen these patients by serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and liver ultrasound (US) every 6 months. We explore the diagnostic accuracy and the performance of (AFP) in cases of hepatitis B carriers as a scree...

I-1: Screening of Subfertile Men for Testicularlar Carcinoma In Situ by An Automated Image Analysis-Based Cytological Test of The Ejaculate

Background: Testicular cancer (TC) is usually diagnosed after manifestation of an overt tumour. Tumour formation is preceded by a pre-invasive and asymptomatic stage, carcinoma in situ (CIS) testis, except for very rare subtypes. The CIS cells are located within seminiferous tubules but can be exfoliated and detected in ejaculates with specific CIS markers. Materials and Methods: We have built ...

Intra-familial Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Arak, Central Iran

Background: The household transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major health problem. High incidence of HBV infection is observed within the household contacts of HBV carriers. We aimed to evaluate serological markers of hepatitis B infection among family members of HBV carriers in Arak, central Iran. Methods<stron...

Diagnostic Value of Cytokeratin 34 beta E12 (Ck34βE12) and α-Methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR) Immunohistochemical Expression in Prostatic Lesions

Background & Objective: Some prostatic lesions contain small suspicious foci for prostatic carcinoma in which the morphological features are equivocal. Two immunohistochemical markers namely, cytokeratin 34 beta E12 (Ck34βE12) and α-Methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR), were evaluated in these lesions for a definitive diagnosis and avoiding misdiagnosis or overdiagnosis of prostatic...

Screening for emphysema via exhaled volatile organic compounds.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)/emphysema risk groups are well defined and screening allows for early identification of disease. The capability of exhaled volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to detect emphysema, as found by computed tomography (CT) in current and former heavy smokers participating in a lung cancer screening trial, was investigated. CT scans, pulmonary function tests ...
